Madame Macabre: Familiar Oblivion #3

The two walked through the empty town, the wind the only sound. Ahead of Macabre, Aleria walked silently. Holding her priest's staff, Macabre wondered how the ceremonial rings that hung on it never made a sound.

"So, how did you come in possession of a priest's staff, Aleria? And how are you able to hold it for that matter?"

Aleria stopped and turned her head to the side. "The Lady prefers her followers know the holy arts to better protect her kingdom against evil that would seek to destroy it."

"Even if her followers are demons?"

"Everyone knows greater demons are loyal to the Great Ones. The Lady trusts us with her life and her kingdom."

If this was true, what a fool the Lady was, Macabre thought. Even if they were loyal to the Great Ones, greater demons' true purpose was always to serve the forces of evil.

"You should know that such a feat as wielding holy power is not beyond the power of a Great One."

"I suppose not," Macabre said, not entirely convinced.

The two soon made it to the center of the town. In the middle was a small well, where Aleria now stood.

Aleria stopped.

"What is it?"

"The source of the evil," Aleria said, her eyes focused on the well.

"Down there?" Macabre wondered. She couldn't sense anything.

"Yes. Come on," Aleria said, and with that jumped into the well with demonic speed.
